On May 7, 2010 a superhero film, Iron Man 2, starring Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, is released in USA theatres.

Iron Man 2 is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name from Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures. It is the sequel to 2008’s Iron Man, and the second film in a planned trilogy. The MPAA has given this film a PG-13 rating for Sequences of Intense Action Violence and Some Language.

There are many different super hero films which are being produced at the moment and some are really bad. One film which seems to have broken the mould is the Iron Man 2. Although sequels are often not as good as the first one Iron Man 2 is a great sequel. This film is packed full of action and will keep you guessing until the end of the movie. Comic book heroes can either give very bad story lines or great ones and Iron Man 2 delivers a great film.

With the world now realizing who Iron Man really is billionaire inventor and businessman Tony Stark comes face to face with many people who want his designs. The military, government, press and the public — all want to know what he is going to do with the amazing Iron man suit. Tony Stark is receiving huge pressure to reveal his technology so that the military can use it for their own resources and weapons. Although he understands why they want to know his secrets Tony Stark is un-willing to hand over his designs and Iron Man suit. He enlists the help of his closest friends to help him defeat and outsmart new powerful enemies that are sent to take control.

The Iron Man 2 events are going on six months after the first film had finished and Tony Stark aka Iron Man had achieved so much. He had negotiated world peace and his popularity was overwhelming all over the world, children wanted to be him and woman wanted to be with him. Stark enterprises show cased all of their latest inventions at the amazing “Stark Expo” which allowed people to see the amazing things he had planned for the future. The only people who were not happy about this were the military who felt it was their right to have the designs and plans for all of Tony Stark’s inventions.

When they publicly demand that he hands it all over to them he humiliates them by shaming them with all of their failed attempts to copy his Iron Man suit. Although Stark appears to be very happy he is hiding a massive secret which is threatening to kill him. The arc reactor has penetrated his heart and is slowly poisoning his body. Although he is drastically trying to find a solution so far everything has failed and this is pushing him over the edge. He feels that his death is impending so he appoints his personal assistant as the new head of his company and appoints a new personal assistant.

Stark is then attacked by a stranger in a very unusual suit. He later discovers that this stranger is in fact the son of a Russian inventor who he worked with on the original arc. The military soon discover this too and enlist the Russian’s help to build their own Iron Man suit. Although they believe this is what he is doing, in fact he is building an army to take over so he can become ruler. Stark has to fight the drones and as they begin to explode he finally gets to kiss the girl.

This is a great sequel which although has a very similar storyline to other comic book movies. The characters help to take the great bits from the first film and expand on them. You are often either a fan of comic book films or not and this certainly are one of the better ones that have been made. A perfect choice of actors always helps when making a great film and the directors choose well with the characters in Iron Man 2.

Jon Favreau has progressed well as a director and is now taken very seriously. When he first began it was difficult for him to be taken seriously as people looked at him as an actor. Although he loves being a director he also loves the fact that he is an established actor, screenwriter and producer. He selected some amazing actors for the parts in Iron Man and then decided to keep them for the sequel. This proved to be a success and the main character being played by Robert Downey Junior although criticized proved to all the critics that he can still act and do it well.

Robert Downey Junior, although has had many issues over the years and has had to fight his demons on several occasions, proves time and time again that he is a great actor. He played well in the Iron Man movies and brought some of his unique style and edge to the character which is what made it so appealing to watch. Some of the other great names in this film include Gwyneth Paltrow, Mickey Rouke, Scarlett Johansson and Samual L. Jackson. Some of which were in the first movie and others were brought in to compliment the exsisiting actors. All of them worked well together and helped to make this film a great hit.

The overall feeling of this film is that if you like comic book films then you will l like this one; Robert Downey Junior plays the part of Stark effortlessly and with great talent. He brings his own unique humor to the part which you feel all the way through the movie. Iron Man 2 is a great sequel which you will enjoy watching and there are only very minor criticisms which can be over looked easily. The end fight scene is not original, we have all seen something like that before in several other big hits such as Transformers. The writers could have thought of something more creative.

The machines coming to head and fighting it out for the declaration of the best has been done time and time before. The action scenes and fighting is however very good and the effects and way it have been thought about are both very good. Although there is a great deal going on in certain areas of the film you do feel that you can keep up and remain focused. It is a film that can be enjoyed by all ages and will carry on being watched by people.
